An informal, late-night opening to celebrate the start of our festival and meet local authors! Browse after hours and there’ll be cake + fizz + soft drinks 

6:30 - 8:00pm An audience with Pauline Murray

The Beehive; Narrowgate

Pauline Murray, lead singer of the first wave of punk band Penetration, will be reading excerpts from her new book Life's a Gamble: Penetration, The Invisible Girls and Other Stories, signing records and chatting all things punk. 

Friday, 24 February

10:00am - 2:00pm Make Your Own Dragon (children’s event)

Alnwick Library; Alnwick Playhouse, Bondgate Without

 If you can’t train your own dragon, you can certainly make one. Come on down for some self -guided crafty fun and learn how to draw, make and create your very own fire-breathing masterpiece. 

12:30 - 1:30pm A drama and story-telling workshop (children’s event )

Methodist Church; Chapel Lane, Alnwick

Workshop created by Open the Book, a national venture by the Bible Society, using the Lion Storyteller Bible for children by Bob Hartman. Open the Book takes teams of people into schools to dramatise Bible stories and share an understanding of the Christian faith. 

1:30 - 2:30pm The Gruffalo comes to Robinsons (children’s event)

A short storytelling session with a monster surprise at Robinsons, your independent Alnwick department store, where you'll find our handpicked women's fashion, accessories, homewares, gifting and more.

Want to explore the world of Dungeons and Dragons? Want to give the world of board games and fantasy adventure a whirl but don’t know where to begin? Mark Coulter and Anneka Thomspon, both Dungeons and Dragons super-fans, will show you how to set up your first game. If you fancy righting wrongdoings with your friends, do come along for this fantasy game and story-telling session.

Romantic fiction writer Caroline Roberts is a bestselling author of eleven contemporary fiction novel about romance, friendship love and loss, family and community. EB Bridal is a luxury bridal boutique in Alnwick, Northumberland.

1:00pm Book signing, drinks and nibbles with the authors of The Angels of the North

The Northern Angels; 7-9 Market Place, Alnwick

Angels of the North highlights forty women who are either from the North-East or have strong connections to it. All of them are women to be proud of. Co-authors RT HON Joyce Quin, academic and politician and Moira Kilkenny, local historian, 

will be signing books at the at Northern Angels shop, an ethical lifestyle brand inspired by influential women from the North.

2:00pm Foot stomping blues with the incredible Pistol Pete Wearn

Alnwick Brewery Tap Room, Unit E, Hawkhill Business Park, Alnwick NE66 3PG

Pistol Pete Wearn is a solo acoustic blues artist who performs raucous and upbeat material accompanied by slide guitar and a stomping foot.  His music has been played on BBC 6 Music, described as “as true as it gets” by Blues Blast magazine and twice-awarded ‘Solo Blues Artist of The Year’ by Moonshine Magazine. He is currently touring material from his lockdown YouTube cover series Sunday Morning Blues, as well as originals and crowd favourites from past projects. 

2:00pm Poetry reading by the award-winning local poet and writer Paul Mein

Salts Deli & Café; 36 Bondgate Within, Alnwick

Paul draws his inspiration from north-east landscapes and characters and is widely published. His latest collection (2022) features his poem Lindisfarne Light which was part of an installation by artist Paul Rooney at Lindisfarne Castle. Many will know of his prizewinning short story A Canny Day Oot.  

2:30pm Cream Tea at the White Swan with the Alnwick All Stars choir

4:00pm Poetry at the Playhouse Café with award-winning local poet and writer Prof. Tony Williams

Alnwick Playhouse Café, Bondgate Without, Alnwick

Tony Williams’s All the Bananas I’ve Never Eaten won Best Short Story Collection at the Saboteur Awards. His novel Nutcase was a Read Regional Choice 2018 and his new novel Cole the Magnificent is out this summer. He is Professor of Creative Writing at Northumbria University.

8:00pm A second chance to see the amazing Pistol Pete Wearn

Pete is appearing at the Tanners Arms for those who can’t make the afternoon session or those who can’t get enough incredible blues music. Here is your chance!
